DAAD Scholarships for International Students in Germany


For the academic year 2022–2023, the Bamberg Graduate School of Social Sciences is offering DAAD Scholarships for PhD Candidates. If you are a graduate and plan to write your doctoral thesis abroad, you must apply.

Students pursuing master’s degrees in sociology, psychology, educational science, political science, labor, educational economics, demography, and statistics will be eligible for the scholarships. Candidates who are chosen will get a stipend of 1,200 EUR, insurance, and other benefits.

The German Science Foundation (DFG) funds the transdisciplinary Bamberg Graduate School of Social Sciences (BAGSS) at the University of Bamberg as part of the German Excellence Initiative.

It is a medium-sized university with a focus on the humanities, social and economic sciences, human sciences, and computer sciences with an application-oriented approach.

DAAD Scholarships


The applicants must fulfill each of the requirements listed below in order to be eligible for DAAD Scholarships:

  • graduates with a high level of education in the social sciences, such as psychology, political science, educational science, labor and educational economics, demography, and statistics
  • Successful candidates would need to move to Bamberg, a city renowned for its outstanding quality of life and favorable environment for research and education.

Eligible Countries: All international students can apply.

Eligible Course or Subjects: Students can apply for a PhD study to write their master thesis at the Bamberg Graduate School of Social Sciences.

  • Self-written statement of applicant’s knowledge of German

Admission Requirements: The applicants must hold a master’s degree (or equivalent) in the fields of Sociology, Psychology, Educational Science, Political Science, Labor, Educational Economics, Demography, and Statistics or be very close to completion.

Language Requirement: The students must have proficiency in German.

Benefit of DAAD Scholarships Germany: The students selected for these doctoral scholarships will be awarded a monthly stipend of 1,200 EUR, plus insurance and other allowances.
