UNIL Masters Grants for Foreign Students, 2022-2023


For the class of 2022, the University of Lausanne is making 10 UNIL Masters Grants available to international applicants. A master’s degree can be pursued at the University of Lausanne with the aid of grants.

The University of Lausanne offers approximately 10 Master’s grants, which are given out on a competitive basis, to make it easier for students with credentials from international universities to obtain Master’s degrees.

Prior to becoming a university in 1890, the University of Lausanne in Lausanne, Switzerland, was established in 1537 as a school of theology. Currently, the university is home to 2,200 researchers and 13,500 students.

The applicant must be a graduate of a foreign university. Participants must demonstrate their proficiency in English in both their motivation letter (including the number of years they have taken language classes and any specific experience they have had in an English-speaking setting) and the IELTS or TOEFL exam.

  • Course Level: Grants are available for pursuing a master’s degree at the University of Lausanne.
  • Study Subject: Firstly, it is not possible to apply for the following programs:
    1. Master from the School of Medicine
    2. Master of education
    3. Master of Law from the Universities of Zurich and Lausanne
    4. Master of criminal Law, magistracy specialism
    5. All MASs (PhD programs)
    6. Master of Science in Health sciences
    7. Master of Science in Physical Education and Sports Didactics

UNIL Masters Grants


Eligible Countries: International students can apply for these UNIL Masters Grants.

Entrance Requirements:

  1. To have obtained a foreign university degree, considered equivalent to a bachelor at UNIL before the beginning of the master’s program at UNIL.
  2. To have distinguished yourself during your studies, especially through particularly brilliant academic results.
  3. Not to have been registered with UNIL in the past.
  4. To have a language level of at least B2 (according to the European Language Portfolio global scale) in French or English, according to the language in which your chosen masters is taught.
  5. To have paid the CHF 200.00 administration fee (see document, “list of documents to attach to your application”).


How to Apply: Candidates must send their completed application form (refer to the document, “list of documents to attach to your application”), unbound, by post.

English Language Requirements: Participants must prove a good knowledge of English in their motivation letter (number of years of Language classes taken, specific experience in an English-speaking environment etc.) and IELTS or TOEFL test. Normally, they expect candidates to have a minimum TOEFL score of 580 (paper-based) or 237 (computer-based) or 92 (internet-based). Proof of an equivalent level of language proficiency may be acceptable.

Benefit of UNIL Masters Grants: The scholarship is provided for the minimum required time frame of the student’s chosen program. Except instances of categorical failure beyond the first year, it amounts to CHF 1,600 each month from 15 September to 15 July (or 10 months per year) for the entire term of the masters (one and a half years or two years depending on the chosen masters).
